Community Connection

The I-20 Wildlife Preserve’s 1st Annual Autumn Equinox Fest will take place Saturday, September 21st.

The autumn equinox has been celebrated by numerous cultures as a time of harvest and a time of gratitude. It marks the transition from the warmth and abundance of summer to the cooler, more introspective months of autumn. Many ancient civilizations, such as the Egyptians and the Greeks, held festivals and rituals to honor this pivotal moment in the seasonal cycle. Ecologically, the autumn equinox signifies the balance between light and darkness as the Earth’s axis tilts away from the sun, resulting in equal lengths of day and night. This balance serves as a cue for many organisms in nature to prepare for the coming winter months.

In a commitment to align ourselves with the cycles of the natural world, The Preserve offers this event as an expression of gratitude to our community, providing an opportunity to connect, explore, and discover. The event will feature conservation education stations, vendor booths, food trucks, guided preserve tours, nature-centric activities, giveaways and more.
