Midland’s Urban Playa

As one of the few urban playas protected in a native state, 
the Preserve is a treasured ecotourism destination and a scientific-educational resource of the Permian Basin.

Next week the Texas A&M Forest Service will begin much needed urban forestry management work at the Preserve. Their work does mean, however, for the safety of the workers and public, we will close the Preserve, November 13th – November 15th. The Forest Service will be evaluating the playa landforms, felling trees as needed, and removing other invasive plant species to help foster the Preserve's complex ecosystem and natural resources.
